Manny Pacquiao Wins vs de la Hoya

I

didn’t get to watch the fight, but nonetheless, I did trail the punch-by-punch analysis on ESPN. By round 6, Dan Rafael’s unofficial scorecard had all rounds 10-9 in favour of Pacman. That’s a big relief considering the predictions of some analysts that de la Hoya will KO Manny in less than 6 rounds. Most of my friends are also predicting a de la Hoya win. As I continue to monitor the bout (by reading I mean), I’m feeling a lot of excitement.

After round 8, de la Hoya quits! Manny Pacquiao won convincingly. Wow! What a great win. As Dan Rafael say it, “Total devastation”.

Congratulations Manny!

Pacman vs. Golden Boy

December 6, 2008. MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s less than two weeks before the Dream Match. The reigning ESPN #1 pound-for-pound boxer will face the Golden Boy on the first Saturday of December this year. I’ve been waiting for this match for months now, and I’m expecting an exciting one. With the characteristics of both fighters, I don’t think this will be a Mayweatheresque kind of fight (no offense, but I really don’t like his style). I’ve seen the De la Hoya-Pacquiao 24/7 on ESPN (video courtesy of HBO). This is a nice prelude to the upcoming bout.

I’ve been playing EA Sports™ Fight Night Round 3 for three straight weeks now, trying to rebuild Pacquiao’s career from the amateur days up to the professional stages. I was hoping to fight both Morales and Barrera once I reach the highest rank. Alas, I didn’t know that all the fighters in the game are fictitious. Stupid me. I only realized that after 15 days of playing. I didn’t stop though since I kinda like the game, but I somewhat wasted a lot of time. Anyway, my amateur record is 11-0-1 (8KO) while my professional record is 28-4-0 (28 KO). Two of my losses are by split decision to a bald veteran boxer in the featherweight division. The other two are KO losses to a bigger, lightweight king. I have KOed that boxer before, but he came back bigger and stronger in our next two fights. Talking about a thrilling trilogy, huh? I decided to hang up my gloves after that loss, not because I lost badly but because I wanted to allot my time for more valuable things. Lame excuses. =p

Apart from the Career mode in that PSP game, I played a lot of quick Pacquiao-de la Hoya
3-rounders. Naturally, I control the Pacman. I did win some of the fights, but most of them, I lost via KO. It wasn’t surprising since in that game, de la Hoya is a lot bigger. There’s no option to adjust them to have a common weight division. But that’s just a game. Things will be different come the actual fight night. I think de la Hoya will kiss the canvass, not necessarily a knockout, but he will fall. My prediction? Pacquiao by majority decision. (I’m hoping for a KO of course).
